The Organization acts as a wing of the It is National Institute of Social Defence (NISD), involved in research, and capacity building aimed at delivery of improved service for Drug Demand Reduction.

The unit works directly with NGOs supported by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime in Bihar, Jharkhand, Sikkim and Darjeeling.

RRTC also gathers data and monitors trends in drug abuse for the National Centre for Drug Abuse Prevention and engages in pilot initiatives for improved response to the changing patterns.
